Monitoring

Temperature Monitoring

Containers are often loaded some days or even weeks prior to being transported to their ultimate destination. Feliba provides a monitoring service to ensure that regular status and temperature checks will pick up on any potential issues before it becomes an actual problem.

Most times, this service is required prior to a vessels departure (sea), but the service is just as relevant and important if the units are being transported by road or rail. A summary of these checks is below.

Reefer Monitoring

  • The Shipping Lines supply the containers manifest which contains, amongst other details, the set temperatures and vent settings
  • As reefers are being received the set point temperature on the controller is cross referenced with the supplied manifest to ensure it is correct
  • Any significant variance from the requirements on the manifest are immediately reported to the relevant shipping company. The exporter is also advised of the situation, enabling a decision to be made on the recommended suggestions
  • Power to the refrigeration unit should be applied as soon as possible after arrival at the location and an initial startup check is performed. All units are monitored at approximately twelve hour intervals (unless otherwise requested) and checked before they are transported to a vessel
  • The ventilation openings should be checked to ensure they are in the correct position, i.e. normally opened for horticultural procedure. These settings should be advised by the shipping company
  • On completion of the monitoring duration, a full report is passed on to the shipping line, detailing every unit and check performed.
  • The technician responsible records at least two temperatures output by the unit, including:
    • Controller return air temperature
    • Controller supply air temperature
    • An external temperature sensor, with an external temperature analyser
    • Although increasingly rare, the partlow chart recording
