One of the two fundamental purposes of refrigerated containers is transport. The other, refrigeration, requires a source power. Units on vessels, or in static storage are covered, but often they are transported by rail or road on vehicles which supply no power themselves. For very short journeys (up to 30 minutes) this is rarely a problem but when extended periods are required on un powered transports, generators fulfil this power requirement.
